The Memoir

Love and the
B-2 Stealth Bomber

It was 1987, the height of the Reagan era. Kendall Noxsel was twenty-six, four years out of college in Kentucky and two years into an aerospace career in California — a country boy from a rust-belt corner of southern Ohio, quietly climbing the ranks as a manufacturing engineer on the initial production of the most advanced military aircraft in history.

Then he fell in love with a woman from Pico Rivera who had survived a life of her own — two years alone in New York City as a teenager, an abusive marriage, a young family to rebuild. Love and the B-2 Stealth Bomber is the true story of what happened when two people who had only known precarious lives tried, scars and all, to build a future together — set against the secrecy and ambition of the Cold War’s most classified aircraft program.

One reader called the experience surreal — as if they were living every detail alongside him — and said the book became as much a lesson in self-reflection as a story about someone else’s life.

Celia D. Escobar · Amazon Reader
★★★★★

Another reader described Noxsel as an emotional writer who pulls you into every joyful and frustrating relationship in the book — with a resolution they called genuinely mind-bending.

His Story

From Wheelersburg
to the B-2 Program

Kendall Noxsel was born in 1960 and grew up in Wheelersburg, a small town on the Ohio River in the rural, southern part of the state. He earned his degree at Eastern Kentucky University in 1983, then moved west to California in 1985 to break into the aerospace industry.

As a manufacturing engineer, he worked on the highly classified B-2 Stealth Bomber program at Northrop Corporation, then went on to the MD-11 program at McDonnell Douglas. In 1991 he shifted course, moving to Mar Vista in West LA and building a therapeutic massage practice that he still runs today.
